Herbal Tinctures & Fluid Extracts / Herbal Tinctures
Tinctures offer a convenient alternative to infusing herbs. Simply put 2-5ml's of tincure in to water/fruit juice and drink. This is particularly useful when at work or travelling. Tinctures are alcoholic extractions of herbs.
The herb is placed into a mixture of alcohol (derived from sugarbeet) and water, the strength of which is varied depending on the material from which the tincture is made. It is left at room temperature for 2-4 weeks, after which it is filtered and bottled.
Tinctures are normally 1:3 to 1:5 parts herb to liquid in 25%-60% alcohol. If the dose is put in hot water, the alcohol will soon evaporate.
