James Wong in Baldwins

James Wong in Baldwins James Wong is an ethnobotanist (someone who studies humanity's use of plants) from Twickenham in the UK and best known for his BBC2 series "Grow Your Own Drugs". James' upbringing in Malaysia saw him exposed to numerous natural remedies and instilled in him the beneficial properties of fruit, vegetables and herbs.

The second series of James Wong's BBC TV series "Grow Your Own Drugs" is due to return to our screens later this year. The first series was a big hit with viewers and spawned a companion book by Wong and a Christmas Special. Having been trained at the Royal Botanical Gardens in Kew, James Wong honed his presentation skills as a lecturer at Kent University. His ability to make dry, scientific facts about plants and herbs into interesting and useful information led him to a career in television. Starting with appearances on Gardener's World, Richard and Judy and The Alan Titchmarsh Show, it wasn't long before he had his own show commissioned.

James Wong was a customer of G. Baldwin & Co. before he started to develop the Grow Your Own Drugs television show so it was natural that he chose us as the supplier of many of the ingredients used in the program. Baldwins have worked closely with his production company and supplied a wide range of materials for both the new series to be broadcast early in 2010 and the Christmas special "Grow Your Own Christmas". See more information on it here and keep an eye out on the BBC for scheduling times.

Due to the changing seasons and the notorious British weather, it simply isn't practical or possible to grow all the ingredients in your average UK garden. Thankfully, Baldwins is stocked all year round, meaning you can leave the gardening to someone else. James was good enough to recommend us in his book which accompanies the first series and visited us in July 2009 for a book signing. You can buy his book on the site as well as browse the extensive product range to find your own ingredients to try your hand at his recipes.
