DIY Natural Moisturising Cleanser Recipe

We released our full DIY beauty recipes infographic a few weeks ago – and now we’re going to start focusing on individual recipes so you can learn more about the benefits of their ingredients.

Our DIY Natural Moisturising Cleanser is easy peasy to whip up, but has a lot of benefits for your skin without you having to inspect a list of ingredients on the back of a bottle. It’s just made up of coconut oil, honey and bicarbonate of soda.

Coconut oil is a great staple for a healthy household. From cooking to natural beauty, it’s a bit of a showstopper in terms of its benefits. Naturally antibacterial but with a high fat content, it will cleanse the skin but not strip it of moisture. In fact, it’s a great ingredient for people who have dryer skin as it can help to soothe and replenish. Pick up a tub here and keep it in your bathroom – not only does it work amazingly in this DIY moisturiser, you can also use it as a hair mask or straight from the container as a body lotion.

Honey is the second ingredient in our recipe. Again a natural antibacterial ingredient, it will help to gently remove impurities from your skin but retaining moisture, reducing the ‘tight’ feeling you may get after using other, harsher cleansers. Manuka honey is a great choice to use because of its healing properties.

Finally, bicarbonate of soda is something you might already have in your kitchen cupboard. A small dash of this in the mix for your cleanser will work as a gentle exfoliator, softly working on dead skin cells while the honey and coconut oil will add moisture back in to avoid the skin becoming dry or irritated.

Skin types are very different, and what works for you might not work for someone else – even if you think you have the same skin type as them. As usual we’d advise testing a small amount of the cleanser on your skin to check it suits your particular type before incorporating it into your beauty routine.
