Don’t Do A Sweeney Todd This Father’s Day

I don’t think there is a man on this planet that’s got a shaving regime that leaves their skin silky smooth and pain free every time they shave.

From nicking their chin to the stinging affects of their aftershave, shaving isn’t always clean cut. And no amount of blades from Gillette or new razors can solve it.

Yet there is a way to give your dad a more pleasant shave and make this Father’s Day extra special.

Whether you fancy investing in Baldwin’s range of men’s exfoliating facial scrubs, hydrating skin lotions, facial washes and shaving oils or making some yourself, it is possible to make shaving a more enjoyable experience.

Can herbs/oils make shaving pain free?

The answer is simple: YES.

Essential oils can be used on their own or under a shaving cream to help the razor to glide across their skin more easily whilst softening and moisturising their skin.

All you need to do is remember the following:

  • Base oil – undiluted aromatic essential oils applied directly to the skin can irritate, so to give your dad a pain free shave, I recommend blending a base oil with a few drops of aromatic oil. Good base oils include mineral oil, olive oil, almond essential oil, avocado essential oil, coconut essential oil and jojoba essential oil as these will nourish his skin.
  • Aromatic essential oils– these will add the scent to your shaving oil, so you will only need a few drops per ounce of your base oil. Now the aroma you use is up to you and your dad’s preference. I suggest having a smell of their current range to see if there are any particular scents he likes.

Good ones though include eucalyptus and peppermint (these will have a cooling effect on his skin), tea tree oil (this can act as an antiseptic), cedar, patchouli, juniper and ginger.

  • Glycerin – this is optional, however it does act as a moisturiser keeping his skin moist whilst healing it from the irritation of shaving.

Is natural best?

I think so, but maybe I am biased.

However I have to admit that the presence of natural herbs and oils such as Green Tea and Frankincense in Baldwin’s men’s range makes me feel more confident in their promise of helping to nourish and heal skin.
