A purported aphrodisiac, this herb grows wild on the steep, rocky mountain gorges of Greece, Crete in particular, hence the name, and other Mediterranean countries.
The wild form of this plant is now classed as 'rare' and is protected un der EU law. The herb we sell is cultivated, mainly in Turkey & Greece.
High in Carvacrol and Thymol Dittany of Crete is often used as one of the flavourings for Absinthe and Vermouth
