The Weight For Summer - FAQs

Q. I simply can’t seem to lose weight despite trying lots of diets – where am I going wrong?

A. There is more and more evidence that ‘faddy’ diets don’t promote long term weight loss. Studies show that a high percentage of people who lose weight initially on these type of diets soon put the weight back on when they start eating ‘normally’ again. The key to achieving and maintaining a healthy weight is to change the way in which you eat by choosing healthier options, eating lots of vegetables instead of lots of protein (such as meat and cheese), and unrefined foods such as brown rice.

Q. Does exercise on its own lead to weight loss?

A. It’s important to think of exercise and healthy eating as part of the same goal in reaching your desired body shape. Exercise will help you to tone up muscles and burn up calories. Even though muscle weighs more than fat combining weight training exercise with aerobic exercise will help you burn even more calories and tone up those flabby bits quicker!

Q. Can supplements help me diet?

A. There are a range of supplements that may help when you are trying to lose weight. They work in different ways: some, such as 5-HTP, are appetite suppressants, whilst others like L-Tyrosine may play a part in speeding up your metabolism or Hydroxycitric Acid, which is thought to help promote fat loss. Baldwins staff will help you select the right products for you.

Q. What about when my diet has finished?

A. If you change your pattern of eating, rather than go on a crash diet, your new lifestyle should be ongoing and help you to maintain a healthy weight all through your life. However, be realistic about what you want to achieve and don’t set yourself goals that are out of reach. Start by trying to drop just one dress size instead of four(!) and allow yourself to have an occasional treat so that you don’t get bored with your new regime. Good luck!
