UK grown, organic, virgin, cold, fresh pressed Borage oil

Borage oil is derived from Borage (Borago officinalis) or ‘starflower’, a wildflower from the Boraginacae family. Borage oil is also very important and beneficial for bees. Borage is a honey plant which is beneficial for bee keeping. However, this plant’s blossoms area also used for medicinal purposes and it is considered to be great grass for cattle.

Borage oil also known as the Starflower is a popular choice with alternative health practitioners for its many medicinal properties. Gamma Linoleic acid is one type of Omega 6 essential fatty acid that the body cannot make on its own, so has to procure through other sources. Fushi’s Organic Borage oil is made with the minimum of 22% Gamma Linoleic acid. Borage oil has been used as herbal treatment in traditional medicine practices for hundreds of years. The external uses are vast – which range from treating skin flare ups, lowering pain, and it is very anti-inflammatory. The Essential Fatty acids are also needed as a precursor of prostaglandins, which are needed to regulate the circulation and the hormonal system.

Organic Borage oil is now used for its use of lowering symptoms of various inflammatory and age related disorders such as atopic eczema, arthritis, and respiratory disorders. Organic Borage oil is known be beneficial for aging skin, and it helps counteract the effect of free radicals. It is also recommended for treating dry, irritated skin.

Fushi’s UK grown Borage oil is freshly made in small batches by cold-pressing the seeds of the flower. As soon as it is pressed and bottled, the oil is stored and chilled. We have chosen an English grown source of Borage due to wanting the best quality oil for the taste, which is highly important. The seeds are cold pressed for maximum freshness and potency, and is packed under nitrogen, which means the oil is kept at the right temperature and prevents the organic Borage oil from becoming rancid. Rancidity can occur due to mass manufacturing of the oil, temperature, being exposed to light, poor storage and oxidation.

At Fushi we understand the importance of preserving the potency of our cold pressed Borage oil. Fushi’s organic Borage oil has a smooth, mellow, creamy, nutty flavour which makes the oil a joy to consume.

For Internal use

Fushi’s recommended daily dosage for taking UK grown, organic Borage oil internally is 1-3 teaspoons daily with food, or as directed by a healthcare professional.

Organic Borage oil is packed with macronutrients, plant compounds, vitamins and minerals that are great for internal health. Fushi’s organic Borage oil is made with the minimum of 22% Gamma Linoleic acid.

Cooking with Borage oil

Fushi’s organic Borage oil has a smooth, mellow, creamy, nutty flavour which makes the oil a joy to consume. This oil can be taken straight from the spoon, but it can also be used as an everyday alternative (with the added array of health benefits) to your usual salad dressing, dips, smoothies, and soups. Like all unsaturated oils – this oil should not be used at a high temperature. It is best to avoid heating Borage oil as heat can break down the fatty acids in the oil and render its beneficial compounds useless. It is perfect for salad dressing, drizzled on grains, rice, vegetables or salads, blended into dips like hummus, soups, or used in sauces.

For External use

Borage oil for skin

Massage into affected area daily. Organic Borage oil can be applied topically to the skin. Borage oil has an anti-inflammatory effect and seals in moisture of dry and damaged skin. It is also known to provide relief to sufferers from chronic skin disorders, such as eczema and atopic dermatitis.

Fresh pressed Borage oil has a significant effect on improving the health and appearance of skin tissue. Borage oil can alleviate inflammatory symptoms associated with skin disorders, and can be effective in treating redness and moisture loss associated with dry skin.

The high Gamma Linoleic acid content in Borage oil is converted into a compound called Prostaglandin 1, which is a key molecule in maintaining healthy skin. This compound has a potent anti-inflammatory effect on the skin and is also effective in regulating water loss and protects skin from injury and damage.

If used externally, the healing effects of organic Borage oil are felt more specifically on where it is applied, but it can still be absorbed deep into your skin and into your bloodstream.

At Fushi we recommend applying our organic Borage oil just before bedtime to get smoother softer skin or add a teaspoon to a hot bath together with other essential oils.

Borage oil for hair

English grown Borage oil can also be applied on the head if you want to enjoy its curative properties. Using organic Borage oil on the hair can help strengthen the hair follicles, and promote healthy hair growth. Massaging fresh pressed Borage oil onto the hair can also help dandruff and itchy scalp conditions which are common hair related problems. This can be blamed on diet or polluted air, and this problem can be difficult to illuminate. The omega 6 fatty acids can positively effect and promote hair growth which is why some can look to organic Borage oil as a hair remedy. This oil also has large amounts of Gamma Linoleic acid, an omega 6 fatty acid that may reduce inflammation.

Applying a Borage hair mask

First start by wetting your hair in the shower and dry off excess water so the hair is damp. Pour a small amount of Borage oil into the palm of your hand and massage gently all over the scalp. Next, brush your hair and then wrap your hair in a towel (you will have a better effect if the towel is slightly warmed) and leave in the oil for 15 to 20 minutes. After this you can wash your hair with a light shampoo, and you may not need conditioner as the organic Borage oil will have left your hair much softer and shinier than a conditioner would.
