FAQs

What are balsams?

Balsams are resins or saps collected directly from the trunks of specific trees in the South American region of the world.

These resins are collected by special bores and cuts in the trunks. Once it comes to protect and heal the trunk wound, it’s gathered for use in medicines, soaps, and fragrances.

Popular kinds of balsam

Tolu, Peru, and Copaiba are popular balsams in aromatherapy and natural healing:

  • Tolu has a gentle floral fragrance with vanilla and cinnamon notes.
  • Peru is earthier with similar cinnamon and vanilla undertones.
  • Copaiba features a much more subtle sweet smell. It’s woody, herbal, and a little balsamic.
How to use Balsams
