Manuka Honey

Manuka honey is made from the Manuka bush, only found in New Zealand and some of coastal Australia. Made from one flower, as opposed to other honey mixed with several different pollens, Manuka honey has a higher concentration of methylglyoxal and phenolics. This makes Manuka honey a better alternative to refined or artificial sugars because of its higher antibacterial properties and more stable energy production.

More About Our Manuka Honey Range

Rich in essential nutrients, raw manuka honey provides small amounts of vitamins such as vitamin B1, B2, B6, and vitamin C and essential minerals like calcium, magnesium, and zinc. As it is made from the nectar of the Manuka bush, it contains a high concentration of MGO (Methylglyoxal), a compound that gives it remarkable antibacterial, antiviral, and anti-inflammatory effects.

These nutrients support everything from energy production to immune function, making it a healthy addition to your daily routine. Its antibacterial properties are so potent that raw manuka honey is often used to support the immune system and protect against internal and external harmful bacteria. Manuka honey also has a unique ability to retain its potency, even when exposed to light, heat, and time, unlike regular honey.

Beyond its internal health benefits, Manuka honey is a favourite in
skincare for its ability to nourish and moisturise the skin deeply. Its
natural enzymes and antioxidants help to soothe and heal acne, reduce redness, and keep the skin hydrated. When applied to hair, it can promote a healthy scalp, reduce dandruff, and add shine, making it a versatile addition to your beauty routine. Whether you’re looking to boost your overall health, enhance your skin and hair, or simply add a touch of natural sweetness to your diet, Manuka honey offers benefits far beyond what traditional honey can provide.

FAQs

What is so special about Manuka honey?

With its higher dosing of MGO (Methylglyoxal), manuka honey offers a much higher concentration of this natural active ingredient barely seen in ‘normal’ honey. The better manuka is one with a higher MGO, and with a UMF (unique manuka factor) to ensure quality and that your manuka is the best manuka you can buy.

There is a bacteria called Helicobacter pylori, which grows in the stomach and causes stomach ulcers - this special manuka honey compound has been known to inhibit Helicobacter pylori bacterial
growth!

How do I know my Manuka honey is authentic?

To ensure you purchase authentic Manuka honey, look for certifications and quality labels. Check for a Unique Manuka Factor (UMF) rating on the jar, which measures the honey's potency. A UMF rating of 10 or higher indicates more potent anti-bacterial capacity in Manuka honey. Keep an eye out as well for a higher MGO on manuka honey. Additionally, look for honey that is independently tested and sourced from New Zealand, which helps guarantee its authenticity.

Can I use Manuka honey in cooking or baking?

Yes, you can use Manuka honey in cooking and baking, but it’s important to note that exposing it to high heat can diminish its beneficial properties. For optimal health benefits, consider adding Manuka honey to warm beverages and smoothies, or drizzling it over dishes after cooking. This way, you can enjoy its unique flavour and health benefits without compromising its potency.
