After many years of selling Swedish Bitters produced by other suppliers, we decided to introduce our own version. This decision was prompted by our current supplier changing the formula when they removed the Aloe without substituting anything for it resulting in a less bitter product than before.
The Baldwin’s Swedish Bitters uses the original formula laid out in the Maria Trebens book Health Through Gods Pharmacy but with the Aloe, which because of Brexit is now impossible to obtain, replaced by Wormwood.
Swedish Bitters got its name from the well-known 18th century Swedish Physician and Rector of Medicine, Dr. Claus Samst. The actual creation of the formula is credited to Dr Phillipus Paracelsus, a Swiss Physician who lived around 1541 but the formula recorded by Dr Samst, who lived to be 104 and finally succumbed, not to the ravages of old age, but as a result of a fall while out riding, is the Swedish Bitters that we know today. It was Maria Treben, the distinguished Austrian herbalist, who brought Swedish Bitters to the worlds' attention in her book "Health Through Gods Pharmacy" where she writes of the various benefits of Swedish Bitters.

INGREDIENTS: Vegetable Glycerine, Aqua, Angelica archangelica (Angelica), Artemisia absinthium (Wormwood), Cinnamomum camphora (Camphor), Cassia Angustifolia (Senna), Crocus Sativus (Saffron), Curcuma Zedoaria (Zedoary), Rheum Palmatum (Rhubarb), Theriac Venezian (Angelica Root, Calamus Root, Valerian Root, Cinnamon, Myrrh and Black Cohosh Root), Carlina Acaulis (Dwarf Carline Thistle), Commiphora Molmol (Myrrh Gum), Fraxinus Ornus (Manna Ash). 1:5
DIRECTIONS: Shake well before use.
Adults: One 5ml teaspoon, either neat or in a little water or fruit juice, before meals twice a day. CONSULT YOUR DOCTOR: If on any medication or if you have a history of stomach, bowel, liver complaints or any other diagnosed illness.

Returns
Here at Baldwins it is our policy to give 100% satisfaction. We do know however, that there may be the odd occasion when you wish to return items. Below you will find an outline of our returns policy.
28 Day No-Quibble Guarantee
If, for any reason, you are unhappy with an item you have received, you may return it within 28 days, unopened and in its original condition, to our Freepost address (below). Upon receipt, we will be happy to give you a full refundfor the item.
Alternatively, you may wish to exchange the item for another. Please note that post and packing costs are non-refundable.
Returning An Item
To return an item, please package in its original wrapping (if possible) and provide a note outlining your name, address, order number and reason for returning.
If your item is under 20 Kg and is smaller than 61cm (L) x 46cm (W) x 46cm (D) then you can use our Free Royal Mail 48 Hour Tracked service by heading here and filling in the appropriate details:

This service will generate a label that you can either print at home or take with you to the post office for them to print.
You will need your order number which is the 6 digit number sent out on your order dispatch email. (If you have any trouble finding this, do give us a call and we can happily find it for you).
Once orders are returned, we aim to process them within 72 hours and (if required) notify you by mail when we have processed your refund and ship any replacements out as soon as possible.
If your item is over 20 Kg or larger than the specified size (or too heavy for you to take to the post office) please call us and we can arrange collection with one of our courier partners.
