Grindelia robusta (herba)

Origin: France

Grindelia is also known as 'Gumweed'. The genus of this herb was adopted from the Latvian Botanist: Davis Hieronymus Grindel.

Initially, this herb was dismissed due to its sticky resin, which was seen as inconvenient. However, its healing properties were soon seen as effective!

Health perks:

This herb was commonly used by the Native American indigenous people. Costanoan people would have the tea to treat skin imbalances: wounds, burns and boil. The Nevada people would used Grindelia as a topical wash/ soak for measles and smallpox. If you were to come across poison ivy/ poison oak, Gumweed would be applied.

The indigenous people would decoct the roots (dried) to detox (around Springtime) and rebalance the liver.

Gumweed is relaxing for bronchial tube muscles during dry irritable coughing. The aromatic grinderesins also help with clearing congestion in 'damp' health conditions.
