Other names: Ginepro and Enebri.

Traditionally Juniper has been burnt in temples to purify the air during ceremonies.

In Celtic tradition Juniper symbolises purification, protection and divine connection.

 In Scotland, the herb is burnt during the Beltaine celebrations also signifying as above.

Commonly used to flavour beers and gins, and particularly, its essential oil is used to preserve meat, extending its shelf-life.

Health perks:

Carminative for digestive discomfort; bloating, gas, indigestion and can aid in cases of diarrhoea. Can help stimulate the gut of an individual who has a loss of appetite.

Manages blood sugar levels by influencing insulin production, as well as cholesterol.

Juniper contains the polyphenol: catechin, which resolves oxidative stress and so is useful for rejuvenating the skin, especially in inflammatory states.

Provides arthritic, rheumatic joint, and gout relief.

An antifungal inhibitor, as well as antibacterial, but also an antiviral; that would go well with echinacea and elderberry for acute immune support.

Studies have shown Juniper berries to be effective in reducing menstrual cramping,

The berries have antiseptic properties that are useful in acute and chronic cystitis.
