Peru Balsam is an aromatic viscous resin obtained by scorching or inflicting V-shaped wounds on the bark of the trunk of the tree Myroxylon balsamum var. pereirae.

In response to the wounds, Peru Balsam – oily, resin-like, aromatic fluid- exudes to heal the tree’s lesions, and the liquid is collected by placing cloth around the trunks.

These cloths are then boiled in water to separate the resin from the cloth and the water is boiled off to leave Peru Balsam.

Renowned for its diversity of uses and benefits, this warm and aromatic balsam is much hotter and more stimulating that Copaiba, even though they are often used to treat the same complaints.

Best known for its ability to ease rheumatic pain and coughs; the fact Peru Balsam is a stimulant, expectorant and parasiticide makes it ideal for treating scabies, skin disease, prurigo, pruritis and eczema, whilst helping to stimulate your heart and increase your blood pressure.

Often also used in the creation of soaps, Peru Balsam can make a soft, creamy lather that can restore chapped hands and moisturise your skin.
