A romantic stay at home date can be a cheap alternative to eating out, but on the downside, it can also mean a large amount of washing up to do. When cooking a recipe from scratch, you can end up using every cooking utility in sight, cluttering your kitchen sink with dirty dishes and pungent pans. Although traditional branded washing up liquid can be cheap to purchase, by creating your own you can avoid using toxic chemicals on surfaces that you place your edibles.

After all, we all know that washing up can be a chore, but why let it interrupt your big night with your special someone. Follow our steps to create your own hassle-free washing up liquid and you can swiftly head back to enjoy your ‘final course’ of the night.

1. Pour 360ml of boiled and cooled water in a large mixing bowl and add 240ml of liquid Castile soap.

2. Put 1 tsp of baking soda, 1 tsp of fractionated coconut oil, 12 drops of grapefruit essential oil and 8 drops of basil essential oil in the bowl and gently mix until the ingredients are well combined.

3. Pour into a pump bottle and apply to dirty dishes when needed.
