Basil emerged in and around the Mediterranean and Middle East. During medieval Europe, the herb was endowed as a blessing upon unions, a symbol of ove and a statement of protection.

Now the herb is found worldwide probably down to its delicious culinary uses; delicious pesto for your pasta, tomato & basil salad anyone?

Eugenol and thymol can help reduce mental fatigue, and you can try it out for youself by using a diffuser or just adding a few drops of Basil essential oil into hot water, to inhale. Allow the pesto aroma to lift you up, or you can have a herbal tea with its leaves. Both will ease nervous irritability and calm neuro-inflammation.

The presence of eugenols in Basil gives the herb spasmodic-relieving value, easing muscle tension and spasms of the gastrointestinal tract. As a tea, Basil can be useful as a digestive tonic, which helps bloating and flatulence (as a carminative) whilst promoting effective digestion. Thus, useful in relieving constipation and indigestion & heartburn.

The herb traditionally is also conveyed as a mild vermifuge (as well as in Ayurvedic medicine); to remove intestinal worms/ parasites. Best used as a preventative.

It acts as a blood invigorator, because of the eugenol, linalool and cineole oil content. Together they stimulate circulation, and induce mild vasodilation generating a warming effect.
