Pogostemon cablin (herba)

Origin: Indonesia

The name 'Patchouli' derives from the Tamil term: 'patchai' = green and 'ellai' = leaf. In ancient times of merchent trade, Patchouli leaves were kept with silk and cashmere to deter moths during journeys. Due to the herbs scent enveloping the materials, if the buyer could not smell the Patchouli there would be doubt of its authenticity.

Patchouli leaves are primarily used for its volatile oil in the use of perfume making.

The Patchouli scent was the height of sophistication during Victorian times and became a symbolic aroma during the 1960s and 1970s.

Health perks:

Studies show the effect of Patchouli over Staphylococcus aureus, E.coli and strains of Candida albicans, making it antimicrobial and antifungal respectively.

Historically, the leaves have been used to heal woumds and infections of the skin. The herb is valued un skincare production for balancing oil production. It can be used to help with acne and eczema. Supporting scalp health, Patchouli helps with dandruff.

Soaking the leaves in hot water to allow its aroma to unfold can be stress-relieving; helping to regulate mood.

Across east Asia, traditional Chinese, Japanese and Malaysian medicine has utilised Patchouli to resolve diarrhoea, ease nause and soothe cramping.

P.S. ***If pregnant/ nursing, or there health imbalances that require attention, it is always wise to consult a qualified herbal practioner... even before trying a new remedy.
