Derives from an evergreen tree, native to Chile and Peru.

In folk medicine Boldo is used traditionally to treat gallstones, especially with soothing the pain that can come with the condition. The herb is also used to relieve cystitis because of its antiseptic property. As a diuretic, the herb will help flush out toxins and pathogenic material as needed.

In relation, coordinates bile secretion as a choleretic and cholagogue due to its contents of alkaloid: boldine. The same alkaloid also contributes to regulatng blood sugar levels.
