Coriandrum sativum [semen]

Origin: Morocco

Coriander seeds are said to have a hidden citrusy note; giving a subtle orangey/lemony-like aroma.

A popular ingredient widely-used in dishes around the world. To unlock its rich flavour, dry-roasting the seeds makes them everso slightly sweeter.

The Romans had used Coriander seeds to to spice wines and preserve meat, alongside using them in dishes.

Commended as a carminative for uncomfortable guts and a tonic for efficient digestion. Primarily Coriander seeds action relief from tension of the gut, cramping, bloating and gas, this occurs via the easing of smooth muscle scoping the whole gastrointestinal tract. Coriander seeds contain linalool, which stimulates the secretion of the digestive enzymes and acid, for improved breakdown and absorption of food. This is good for weak or even sluggish digestion, traditionally this is regarded as a stimulant, encouraging our gut's digestive fire.

The herb has mild cholagogue properties that encourages the flow of bile, supporting fat emulsification and thus digestion. This helps with indigestion and insufficiency of the liver and gallbladder. Alongside, Coriander seeds are also a diuretic that supports the elimination of metabolic waste, but are also used to cool and calm urinary burning and urinary tract infections.

The seeds are considered a nervine from the aspect of the digestive system.
