How to Create Your Own Beauty Range

How to Create Your Own Beauty Range

I know that shops have to make a profit on the products they sell; however I still struggle to understand why some brands of concealer, lip balms, lotions etc cost more than £10 a bottle.

It’s not like they are even that hard to create. Take for instance the following beauty recipes I am about to show you.

All contain basic herbs, oils and ingredients that can be found around your home, but which can still have the impact of making your skin look smooth, supple and blemish free, and your lips lush.

Lip Balm recipes

All you need is 1tbsp of grated Beeswax, 1/2tbsp of Cocoa Butter, 4tsp of Sweet Almond Oil, 1tsp of Honey and 1 capsule of Vitamin E and you can make a creamy lip balm that will nourish your lips.

For a basic lip balm you will need 1tsp Beeswax, 2tsso Coconut oil, 1 Vitamin E capsule and 2-3 drops of a flavoured oil of your choice.

To keep your lips moisturised blend 1 1/2tsp Beeswax with 1 1/2tsp Shea Butter, 1/2tsp Jojoba oil, 1/2tsp Sweet Almond oil, 4 drops of Sweet Orange oil and 2 Vitamin E capsules.

Lotion recipes

Depending on your skin type (dry, oily or normal), you can use any of these recipes to take care of your skin.

For a basic lotion you will need to blend 1-2tbsp of Emulsifying wax with 1/3 cup Carrier oil, ½ distilled water, 1tsp Vitamin E, 10 drops Grapefruit Seed extract and 10-20 drops of essential oil.

You can base your essential oil choice on your skin type.

- Oily/ acne prone skin – Bergamot, Cedarwood, Geranium, Juniper, Lemongrass, Tea Tree.
- Dry/aging/damaged – Chamomile, Frankincense, Helichrysum, Patchoulis, Peppermint, Ylang Ylang
- Normal/combination – Geranium, Jasmine, Lavender, Neroli, Rose
- Sensitive – Chamomile, Helichrysum, Jasmine, Lavender, Neroli, Rose
- Eczema – Chamomile, Frankincense, Jasmine, Lavender, Palmarosa, Patchouli, Sandalwood
- Scars/Stretch marks – Helichrysum, Lavender, Neroli, Patchouli, Rose, Rosemary

Hair Treatments

To help invigorate your hair apply a mixture containing 1 medium avocado and 2tbsp of Honey, and leave on your hair for 20-30 minutes before washing like normal

If you swim regularly then applying a mixture contain 1 egg, 1 eggshell’s worth of Olive Oil and 1 quarter of a peeled cucumber can prevent chlorine damage.

For a good hair conditioner mix ½ cup of Honey with ¼ cup of warmed Olive Oil, 4 drops of Rosemary essential oil and 1tsp of Xanthum gum.

Nails

To help strengthen your nails after wearing nail polish for too long blend 2tsp Castor oil with 2tsp salt and 1tsp Wheat Germ oil and rub into your nails (leave for 3-5 minutes, then wipe off).

Body Scrub

Mix 1 cup of coarse Sea Salt with ½ cup of Baby oil and leave to settle in a jar for a day. When ready to use, you can apply it to areas of your skin that you want to exfoliate, then shower off.

Skin Care

To improve your skin tone blend 1 avocado with 1 carrot (cooked), ½ cup of Heavy Cream, 1 egg and 3tbsp of Honey. Another good skin toner is mixing 1 medium cucumber with 2tsp of Honey.

To help invigorate dry skin mix 2 inches of fresh Ginger with 2tsp light Sesame oil, 2tsp Apricot Kernel oil, 2tsp Vitamin E oil and ½ cup of Cocoa Butter.

For a good cleanser (suitable for both oily and dry skin) you can try blending 1 Kiwi fruit with 2tbsp of plain yoghurt, 1tbsp of Orange Water, 1tbsp Apricot or Almond oil, 1tbsp Honey, 1tsp finely ground almonds and 2 drops of Orange essential oil.

Give me the time and I could go on forever about natural beauty product recipes. However as you can see from the recipes listed above, you can easily create your own creams, lip balms and scrubs at a fraction of the cost.

So why not give them a go and offer your body the luxury of naturally formulated creams, lotions and balms?

I found the lotions to be particularly good for my eczema…
