Clean green this Spring

With spring in the air, there’s only one thing we feel like doing – and no, we don’t mean that. We’re in the mood to throw open the windows and give the house a deep clean. There’s nothing better than welcoming a new season in with a clean slate. Of course, we like to keep things natural, so we’ve gathered our best chemical-free recipes so you can get your place ship, shape and shiny the natural way.

1. No More Dirty Dishes Washing Up Liquid

If you’re trying to reduce the number of chemicals in your home, our washing up liquid recipe is a great place to start. Castile soap and basil essential oil are both naturally antibacterial, while grapefruit essential oil is antimicrobial and works to cut through grease. It works exactly like regular washing up liquid, but with less of the bad stuff and it leaves your dishes so clean, you could eat your dinner of ‘em.

2. Fabulously Fluffy Fabric Conditioner

It’s a great feeling to reach the bottom of the laundry basket, especially when the weather starts to clear and you can dry your washing on the line again. But how carefully do you think about the products you use to get that soft texture and freshly washed scent? Traditional fabric conditioners are packed with chemicals that are bad for your clothes, your body and the environment. Instead, add two to three tablespoons of our natural fabric conditioner to your washing for soft sheets and fluffy towels.

3. Squeaky Clean Toilet Bowl Bomb

Everyone likes a sparkling bowl, but bleach isn’t the most natural product in the world, is it? Instead, drop one of our toilet cleaning bombs into your loo – it beats scrubbing with a toilet brush and smells great to boot. When you combine baking soda with citric acid, you get a fizzing action like a bath bomb or aspirin that works wonders on stains ‘n’ smells. Peppy peppermint, brightening lemon and odour-neutralising lavender are the perfect combo for a sparkling latrine.

4. Only Good Stuff Oven Cleaner

Some household chores are nice, some are nasty and some feel like they should only be done in a full hazmat suit. Yep, we’re talking about the dreaded cleaning of the oven. Commercial oven cleaners are no joke, and can contain all sorts of nasty stuff that you definitely don’t want in your home. Instead, coat your oven with our all-natural oven cleaner and watch the grease and grub melt away (over six to eight hours, so maybe have a cup of tea and do some laundry while you wait). It’s a simple mix of liquid Castile soap, baking soda and apple cider vinegar.  All natural, and very effective.

5. Bringing the Outdoors In Carpet Freshener

Want carpets as fragrant as a pinewood forest without the artificial stank of chemical fragrances? Look no further! Our clever carpet freshener recipe is a combo of baking soda and borax powder with nutmeg and pine essential oils. Simply scatter over your carpets, leave for five minutes and then hoover up for fresh-smelling floors. If you can’t get enough of those all-natural scents, try our homemade air freshener too.
