Rise and Shine: Natural Remedies for Focus and Concentration in the Mornings

Starting the working day with that feeling of complete and utter focus is a great feeling, isn’t it? If you start the day right, it’s that much easier to remain focused and industrious all day. Unfortunately the human brain doesn’t always play ball. But the good news is that you can look to Mother Nature’s pantry for a herbal helping hand to blow away the cobwebs. We asked Baldwins supplier and eco-skincare pioneer Helen Lowe for her best remedies for focus and concentration.

Here are her four natural remedies for fuelling your focus and concentration for the day ahead.

Sip away sleepiness with rosehip and hibiscus tea

If you’ve grown accustomed to needing coffee in the morning, be assured, alternatives are available. For a caffeine-free pick-me-up, steep dried rosehip granules with hibiscus leaves to make a delicious herbal tea that’s bursting with vitamins and minerals – and capable of reducing inflammation, improving circulation and boosting your metabolism. Add grated ginger root and honey for some extra zing. Good morning? You bet.

Awaken your memory with rosemary and peppermint memory balm

For the mornings when even remembering the name of your firstborn is a challenge, Helen has a trick up her sleeve. Channel a little Blue Peter spirit and reach for your here’s-one-I-made-earlier memory balm. It’s minimal effort and a little goes a long way.

Mix 15g jojoba wax and 10g shea butter into a pan, melting carefully over a very low heat. Stir in 30g almond oil and remove the pan from the heat. Add three drops of rosemary oil and two drops of peppermint oil. Then pour into a 60ml jar and leave to set. To use, rub a little of the balm onto your wrists, temples and under your nose. Tada!

Focus your mind with frankincense

While gold is probably the more favoured gift, frankincense is not to be sniffed at. Actually hold that inhalation thought. Because diffusing frankincense essential oil in a steam vaporizer is thought to promote mental clarity, focus and memory function. Pair with lemon essential oil for an invigorating concoction that will help to stimulate your senses and rouse the mind. Ideal for those early morning starts.

Invigorate mind and body with revitalising oil

Awaken your mind and show your skin some love too with Baldwins Synergy Revitalising Body Oil – bursting with the sweet-smelling blend of lavender, peppermint and lemon, and blended in a base of sweet almond and evening primrose oils. A little goes a long way, so use sparingly and massage in gently.
